SPEECH BY THE RT. REV. DOMINIC EIBU MCCJ – BISHOP OF KOTIDO CATHOLIC DIOCESE AT THE OCCASION OF THE LAUNCH OF KARAMOJA PEACE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY ON FRIDAY 28TH JULY, 2023 AT LOSILANG CATHOLIC PARISH-KOTIDO CATHOLIC DIOCESE – KOTIDO DISTRICT – UGANDA – EAST AFRICA.
Your Excellency our Chief Guest,
The Honourable Ministers here present,
The Honourable MPs here present,
All the Religious Leaders here present
All the Priests, Religious Men and Women
The RDC Kotido and all the RDCs present,
The Assistant DRC Kotido,
The cultural Leaders here present,
Everyone here present ladies and gentlemen.
It is a deep pleasure for me to welcome you all here this day.
Your Excellency and our Chief Guest
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Kotido and in particular to LOSILANG under the umbrella of Kotido Catholic Diocese.
Your Excellency, thank you for honouring our invitation to participate in this simple yet historic and meaningful initiative of KARAMOJA PEACE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY (KAPATU), whose motto is ‘Education for Transformation”. This University is historic because it is the first in Karamoja Sub Region. This makes it historic and it shall play a transformative role in this region.
Your Excellency, this initiative is a joint project of the Catholic Lawyers Society International and Kotido Catholic Diocese and the Government of Uganda which we think, believe and are convinced that it is needed in Karamoja Sub Region.
Your Excellency, the name of the Project may seem to be Exclusive in nature (to the parts of Uganda), but it is not- it is a project that intends to benefit of course the people here but the entire region of Ateker and beyond.
We therefore ask you to support this initiative to succeed, because its success here will be yours and ours.
As today we unveil the Foundation Stone that marks the take-off of KAPATU Project, Your Excellency, your presence here and the presence of all these people is a sign that together we hold this project at heart for the good of Karamoja- Ateker Region and the entire Uganda and the Great Lakes Region as can be understood from the speech of Mr. Twinobusingye Severino, the President of the Catholic Lawyers’ Society International delivered to the public a few minutes ago.
And all of you gathered here, I wish to ask each one of you for your cooperation and support to make this project a reality from which we shall all benefit.
Having said this, I wish to reiterate what I have been advocating for, for the people of Karamoja Sub region, and the Region as a whole to make benefit of the programmes and projects which the Church, Government or Private sector bring here so that we can bring a better transformation to our communities; among these are skills training and vocational training programmes and /or other programmes for peace and development that are still despised by many people.
And lastly, Your Excellency, I wish to request room for a private audience with His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, I will be grateful if this possibility is granted to me with my team of the Diocese.
May the Lord God help us to work together for the common good of all the people of God that we all serve.
