Kotido Catholic Diocese Commits 2000 Acres Of Land & Infrastructure For Establishing Karamoja Peace And Technology University

Kampala, Uganda – East Africa.

In what is considered the biggest boost towards the establishment of the first homegrown University in Karamoja sub-region, the Catholic Church Diocese of Kotido has committed over 2000 acres of land and physical infrastructure to establish the upcoming Karamoja Peace And Technology University.

The Bishop of Kotido Catholic Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Dominic Eibu MCCJ made the glorious revelations on behalf of the Diocese during an executives meeting held at the Catholic Lawyers Society International (CLASI) head office in Kampala on July 12.

In addition to the land which is located in an optimal part of Kotido district in Northern Uganda, the Diocese also offered a series of physical infrastructure to house critical faculties and offices of the university. They include;

  1. Kanawati Health Center III which will be upgraded to a five-star University teaching hospital and house the Faculty of Health Sciences.
  2. Infrastructure to house the university’s Faculty of Education.
  3. Loslang Catholic Parish to serve as the university main campus.
  4. Infrastructure to house the Directorate of Community Outreach to address the challenges of street children and Karachunas (reformed Karamojong warriors). Comprised of mostly youth, they will be integrated in schools from nursery to university, as well as technical institutions for those that qualify and prefer pursuing a vocational career.
  5. Infrastructure and land for the Faculty of Agriculture.

In total, the land and property offered by Kotido Catholic Church Diocese are valued at more than UGX 150 billion.

This is a sizeable boost to the university project which was conceived and launched by CLASI as part of the initial project activities to be implemented across Uganda in the next three years starting from April 29, 2023.

The CLASI executives meeting was attended by Mr. Twinobusingye Severino – President; Mr. Henry Kyarimpa – Corporation Secretary, The Rt. Rev.  Bishop Dominic Eibu MCCJ, Rev. Fr. Paul Ebwolu – Member of the Board of Advisors and other dignitaries.

The CLASI intends to inspire fundamental transformation of the Karamoja sub-region via a series of initiatives, with the establishment of a university the most critical.

This is evidenced by the appointment of His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda as the Founding Chancellor of the university;

H.E. Maj. Jessica Alupo MP, The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda as the Assistant Chancellor and University Promoter;

The Hon. Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, The Hon. The Chief Justice of the Republic of Uganda as a University Promoter;

The Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda as a University Promoter;

The Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi SC, the Special Envoy of the President of The Republic of Uganda to the Great Lakes Region, South Sudan and Ethiopia as the Chief International Fundraiser and University Promoter;

The Hon. Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija PhD, The Hon. Principal Judge of the Republic of Uganda as University Promoter;

The Hon. Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, the Chief Liaison Officer with the Government of Uganda as a University Promoter and Vice Chairperson University Council, among other high profile dignitaries on the university founding leadership.

The university falls under the Vatican Dicastery for Culture and Education and is an important project for Kotido Catholic Diocese and the rest of the region due to its massive potential for transforming the Karamoja Sub-region which has been ignored and under developed for over 146 years.
