The funeral of Father Declan O’Toole, murdered last week in Uganda, will take place in Claran, Co Galway, today.

Father O’Toole (31), a Mill Hill missionary, was shot dead in the northeastern Ugandan district of Kotido along with his driver and one of his parish workers.

Hundreds of people gathered in St Mary’s Church in Claran, near Headford, for the Requiem Mass yesterday.

He will be buried today at noon under a tree planted at the time of his ordination. Two Ugandan soldiers convicted of the killings by a military tribunal were executed by firing squad on Tuesday.
