He is a Senior Advocate of the High Court of Uganda, admitted and enrolled in May 1971. He is a Legal Consultant with KGN Advocates in Kampala, Uganda since October 2005. Chief Consultant, Law in Development Consultants. Iya and Associates Co (Ltd).

Brief Overview And Experience

From February 2020 – present: Principal of the College of Law and Business Studies at King Ceasor University in Uganda.

From August 2019 – January 2020: Professor of Law at Uganda Martyrs University in Uganda.

From 01 March 2013 to August 2019 Professor of African and Comparative Law at the Centre of Indigenous Knowledge System of North West University, Mafikeng Campus in South Africa.

From January 2007 t0 2012: Professor of Law, Faculty of Law Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Faculty of Law and Director of the School of Undergraduate Studies at the North West University, Mafikeng Campus in South Africa.

From 2000: Executive Dean of Research and Development responsible for all matters of research and postgraduate studies at the University of Fort Hare from 2000 to 2003 followed by appointment as Senior Research Fellow and Manager for Death Penalty in Africa Project based from 2003 – 2005 at The British Institute of International and Comparative Law at the University of London in UK.

Fort Hare Dean Faculty of Law – 1996-1998.

In Uganda from 1986 to 1988: Legal Practitioner with; Ekemu and Company Advocates in Kampala, Uganda and responsible for all aspects of general practice of law.

From 1979 to 1986: Director of the Law Development Centre Kampala, responsible for the professional, academic and administrative activities of the institution. Also lectured at the Faculty of Law, Makerere University and researched, published and attended various conferences and workshops.

From 1971 to 1979: Lecturer / Head of Department responsible for teaching, research publications and administration at the Law Development Centre.

1971: Graduated from Makerere University with LL.B (Hons) Degree and immediately thereafter was employed as lecturer at the Law Development Centre, Makerere Hill, Kampala, Uganda rising to the post of Director of the Centre.

He is a prolific writer with numerous publications in both local and international Journals e.g. The South African Law Journal; the Stellenbosch Law Review; Journal of Juridical Science of the Free State University; Electronic Journal of the University of Potchestroom; International Journal of Clinical Legal Education (UK); The International Journal of Legal Education (UK); Journal of Legal Education (USA); Journal of Third World Studies (USA); Journal of Professional Legal Education (Australia); – to mention but a few.

He is a Member of the Editorial Board of several renowned Journals e.g. The International Journal of Clinical Legal Education; The International Journal of Legal Education In UK; Speculum Juris (University of Fort Hare)
