Brief Overview And Experience

Liz Lenjo is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and all courts subordinate thereto. She is the Founder and Managing Consultant of MyIP Legal Studio. She specializes in Intellectual Property, Entertainment, Media, and Fashion Law.

She has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Copyright Tribunal, the specialized court established under Section 48 of the Copyright Act (CAP 130).

She is an adjunct faculty member at the Strathmore University Law School where she teaches Media and Entertainment Law, and Business Law.  Liz is also a tutor with CopyrightX by HarvardX- Kenya which is run by the GoDown Arts Center.

She is a volunteer with the Kenya Bureau of Standards as the Chairperson of the Intellectual Property Committee and the Kenya Fashion Council as the Head of Intellectual Property & Policy in the Legal Committee.

Scholarly Works

Liz is also a published writer and scholar. Her LL.M research paper has been published by the renowned Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review 2018 titled: “Inspiration versus Exploitation: Traditional Cultural Expressions at the Hem of the Fashion Industry.” The paper is available online on Westlaw and Nexis as well as the Marquette IP Law Review website (https://scholarship.law.marquette.edu/iplr/vol21/iss2/4/).

She has also written and been quoted in several local newspapers, including the Sunday Nation, The Standard, The Star, Up Magazine (now defunct), Copyright News, and international news platforms

Liz is a blogger on www.lizlenjo.com on IP and Entertainment Law matters focusing on non-legal minds to understand basic issues in these areas of law. She is also the Chapter Lead of Creative Commons Kenya and the head of the Culture & Entertainment Platform.

Liz has been recognized for her efforts in the legal field and is a nominee of the prestigious Business Daily Top 40 under 40 Women 2018. Liz is recognized as one of the Shining Lights, 2021 by WIPRDiversity, a listing of “the best and brightest Influential Women in IP globally“.

She has also been recently recognized as one of the Top 25 Women in Digital – Kenya for her IP advocacy in the online space.

  2. A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), and a Postgraduate Diploma Kenya School of Law.
  3. She also holds a Certificate in Fashion Law from Fashion Law Institute – Fordham University Law School (New York)
