Brief Overview And Experience

I am a qualified lawyer with over 7 (seven) years’ experience in corporate and commercial law, Employment and Labour Law, Family Law, Immigration law, Tax Appeals and Tax Litigation, Banking and Finance Law, Intellectual Property rights protection and enforcement law, Land, Property and real estate law.

I am currently practicing Law in Uganda with Murangira Kasande & Co. Advocates. I am highly self-motivated individual with a positive attitude, good communication and leadership skills, can work under pressure with minimal supervision and I am open to learning and discovering new things in areas of oil and gas, arbitration and negotiation.

Litigation And Transactional Experience

Leadership and legal risk:

  • Providing leadership and ensuring efficient and effective management of staff and resources in the legal department.
  • Liaising with human resource in conducting performance appraisals, review of Human Resource manuals, disciplinary hearings and ensuring competency and organising trainings to fill competence gaps.
  • Reviewing and providing legal advice on identification of legal risks and providing legal advice on contract management and review of tender documents.Formulating compliance checklists to ensure that all information properly and securely stored.
  • Updating management on statutory provisions or any legislative changes affecting the business or entity.
  • Implementing and ensuring legal risk policies are adopted across the business and practice.
  • Reviewing and advising on implementation of existing internal policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing and drafting of contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensuring that they are all in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.

Litigation Management and Dispute Resolution:

  • Maintaining and updating the database of cases and the litigation matrix as well as reviewing the progress and management of all ongoing and pending litigation, while also liaising with external lawyers.
  • Ensuring that recoveries are made promptly and within the specified time schedules so as to reduce the final cost of the claims.
  • Maximizing on in-house settlements using alternative modes of dispute resolution as opposed to court litigation in order to reduce claims costs.
  • Carry our investigations on behalf of the client or company, collect documents and any evidence, identify and prepare witnesses in support of legal cases.
  • Liaising with the Police to complete investigations on behalf of the complainant in a timely manner.
  • Representing clients in any legal dispute as and when required.

Corporate and Commercial Law Advisory:

  • Undertaking contract negotiation with various stakeholders and reviewing and drafting documents for the benefit of the client.
  • Carrying out corporate and individual due diligences as and when required as well as reviewing and modifying all company documents.
  • Reviewing all contracts and any other documentation where an individual or a company has committed itself and assess the legal implications of the clauses therein on the client.
  • Preparing, reviewing and modifying contractual instruments to assist and support various business activities when called upon.
  • Preparing and advising on necessary checklists for the collection of data and information from time to time.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and governance for all the clients and the business.
  • Working closely with various stakeholders and regulators to ensure compliance with the legal framework and the existing legal policies.
  • Preparing quarterly reports for the department and presenting the same and meetings whenever called upon.
  • Provision of company secretarial services, attending board meetings and Annual General Meetings, registration of shareholders with Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).
  • Perfecting securities and mortgages at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and at the Ministry of Lands.
  • Providing immigration services such as obtaining work permits, dependency passes and renewal of passports among others.
