Brief Overview And Experience

She is a Ugandan, self-motivated medical doctor with vast experience planning for and providing health care in Uganda. A good communicator with good public speaking skills, a good team player with vast experience working with multiple local and international partners in the promotion and delivery of health care in Uganda. Leading and supervising a heath sub-district has given me managerial and leadership skills needed in the motivation and supervision of various team players in the provision of health care.

Key Experience Record

Senior Medical Officer, Clinical Services department, Ministry of Health. (December 2021 to date)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of health care standards and policies.
  • Implement plans and strategies related to standards and accreditation
  • Implement and monitor implementation of palliative care management work plans and budgets
  • Conduct appropriate health research for informing decision making for the country.
  • Maintain stakeholder relations with the Ministry of Health.

Medical Officer Special Grade Family Medicine, Bwindi Community Hospital. (May 2020 to December 2021)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managed health care provision services at the hospital and the catchment area covered by the Hospital. This involved working with the clinical team to diagnose and treat patients, provision of disease prevention and health promotion services to the patients and community.
  • Lead Pediatric department, adult and Pediatric chronic care clinics and palliative care clinic. This involved providing clinical care in the Pediatric department and to patients during the chronic care and Palliative Care clinics. This also involved leading and mentoring the clinical teams providing healthcare services in the Pediatric department and the chronic care and palliative care clinics.
  • Supervised and mentored Medical Officers, clinical officers, nurses and other Health Professionals. This involved direct supervision and guidance during day-to-day activities and conducting appraisals periodically.
  • Lead the Hospital emergency response team. This involved training of the response team to be able to handle emergencies and crises such as COVID-19. This also involved providing them with most recent evidence and training needed in the appropriate management of such emergencies.
  • Planned and coordinated training programs and continuous professional development activities for Health Professionals in the hospital. This involved organizing training and educational activities basing on the staff’s knowledge and learning needs essential for better service delivery.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and conduct multidisciplinary community outreaches in the hospital catchment area. This involved organizing and participating in community outreaches that provide family planning services, immunization services, antenatal services and chronic care services.
  • Engaged and communicated with hospital partners and donors regarding the hospital progress and areas needing support. This involved use of available public health evidence to communicate with the donors on the progress of the various health projects being funded and those that needed more support.
  • Planned, coordinated and conducted research in the hospital. This involved identifying areas for research and working with the research team to develop research proposals as well as collaborating with partners conducting research activities in the hospital.
  • Provided technical and professional advice in community health to the Hospital management. This involved providing the hospital management with evidence-based information needed to make health related decisions for the hospital.
  • Participated in the management of referred patients. This involved active participation in the health care provision prior to referral and liaising with the health workers in the referring facility to prepare to receive the patient.
  • Ensured that supervised staff observe discipline and Ethical Code of Conduct. This involved reminding staff of the profession principles and ethical codes of conduct of the hospital and emphasizing the importance of abiding by them.
  • Provided technical advice for the procurement of equipment, drugs and other logistics required for health service delivery. This involved reviewing the equipment available and submitting a report to the procurement committee with guidance on those that need to be prioritized.
  • Performed any other duties as assigned from time to time by the executive director.

Medical officer in charge of Kinkizi East health sub-district and Kanungu health center IV. (April 2015 to August 2017)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provided and maintained curative and preventive health care services. This involved diagnosing, treating, reviewing and evaluating patients, promoting public health practices in the community, participating in research activities and health data collection and implementing community health outreach services.
  • Provided technical guidance and supervision to 21 lower Health Centers. This involved conducting support supervision to the lower health units and providing them with technical guidance in areas where they encounter difficulties while providing health care services.
  • Conducted staff supervision and performance appraisal. This involved direct staff supervision and guidance during day-to-day activities and conducting appraisals at the end of the year.
  • Planned and budgeting for Health Service delivery. This involved drafting the annual budgets for the health unit and health sub-district and ensure that they are followed.
  • Accounted for financial and other resources at the health unit. This involved providing expenditure accountabilities to the Chief Administrative Officer of the district.

Team member for Uganda adaptation of the World Health Organization Medical Eligibility Criteria (WHO MEC) family planning wheel 2015. (August 2016 to October 2016)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provided technical advice on family planning during adaptation of the Family Planning WHO MEC wheel 2015 for Uganda. This involved providing inputs on the suitable family planning services for Ugandan women.
  • Conducted field-testing of newly adapted Uganda WHO MEC wheel. This involved provision of the newly adapted MEC wheels to the lower health units and train health workers on how to use them while providing family planning services to the people.
